Is No One Concerned?

Monday, March 30th, 2009

There does not seem to be much concern raised over the takeover of private industry by the Obama administration. I feel to re-post my inaugural posting from 2004, as a means of understanding our present circumstance.

\”How do you cook a frog? And what happened to the great melting pot?

Alexander Pope posed the problem poetically,

Vice is a monster of so frightful mean
As to be hated needs but to be seen
But seen too oft, too familiar that face
First we endure, then pity, then embrace.

“Character is destiny\”, wrote the Ephesian, Heraclitus. The least degree of immorality (or unethical behavior, if you prefer to present this concept in secular terms) can only serve to corrupt one’s character and destroy the future of those who are thus tempted or engaged. We fortunate citizens of the United States can be proud of Tocqueville’s profound pronouncement that “America is great because Americans are good\”, but we should never forget his equally sobering prediction that “America will cease to be great when Americans cease to be good\”. We are nearly equally divided between those who still respect God and an emanating set of governing principles, and those who support a more secular, a more temporal worldview in which the overarching purpose is not the observation of principles but rather the evasion and avoidance of consequences. We can only imagine what awaits us if the balance is tipped in favor of the latter orientation; when the majority is finally hooked on hedonics.

Is it too late to alter our course? Perhaps, but we as individuals must continue to do what we know to be right and proper. That is why I have chosen to erect this website and offer my views on cultural and political issues, opinions gleaned from years of life, from a penchant for history and a passion for truth. I know how to cook frog legs. I was a chef for nearly 20 years. (You may even find a recipe or two in these pages. We all must eat regardless of our divergent philosophies.) So, how does one cook a frog? If thrown directly into hot water, he will immediately jump out. If you put him in cold water and slowly turn up the heat, he will quietly endure the incremental increase in temperature, then only too late will it be obvious that he has become poached frog.\”

We are being stewed in our own juices with barely a murmur of dissent, thus far.

Just Say NO!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I often tell young parents that it is the job of their young children to test the limits of the child\’s will and probe for the boundaries of permissibility. It is, similarly, the responsibility of parents to define the limits and the boundaries for their children and let them know when they are are approaching the edge. This creates a safer environment for the child, and the child\’s acknowledgment of the boundaries provides security for both parent and child.

As I marvel at the lack of understanding characterized by the behaviors of modern politicians in their audacious adventures beyond the bounds of reason and good judgement, I cannot help but think of the great harm that Dr. Benjamin Spock caused our culture and our world by advising parents not to spank their children. The Hippocratic oath obviously meant nothing at all to him. Still, someone must ultimately do the job these particular parents failed to do. It is time to just say NO! If this does not yield the proper result, remember the adventures of brave Sir Lancelot in the Castle Anthrax.

In Light of Recent Events

It is time to re-post my initial posting from 2004.

Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?

One World Currency

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

When the Euro was introduced among the participating European nations, Germans were promised that converting their Deutschmarks to Euros would not negatively impact their net worth. It was a lie. Germans lost 50% of their purchasing power overnight. We Americans have already suffered the loss the half of our assets since October. Converting dollars to the new currency will cost us half of what remains. This doesn\’t seem like a real solution to our financial problems, does it? Let your elected representatives know that you will not tolerate the elimination of the dollar in favor of this new global currency. Do not delay! There is not much time left to prevent this from happening. It will not only imperil us financially. This also represents the forfeiture of our national sovereignty and the further erosion of our constitution as a basis for continuing governance. Resistance (peaceful resistance) must be considered mandatory from this point forward. Do what you can do.

I will suggest a couple of names for the new currency, however; how about the Uno or the Carbo?

Ation Nation

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

I\’m on the road and must keep this short, but here is the problem and the solution:

Inflation, deflation, taxation, legislation, vilification, confiscation, obfuscation, adjudication, intimidation, in-toleration, frustration, trepidation, capitulation, prostration, consternation, self-education, revelation, humiliation termination, association, imagination, mitigation, jubilation. Congratulation!

Who\’s in Charge of Change?

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Jimmy Carter has been seen lurking about the West Wing in recent days. Why? Is he checking the nuts for signs of e-coli? This should cause concern for anyone who has been paying attention in the last 30 years. Do we really want the worst president in our nation\’s history having any influence at all in Obamaland?

As if this wasn\’t bad enough, check today\’s Washington Times:

\”President Obama\’s climate plan could cost industry close to $2 trillion, nearly three times the White House\’s initial estimate of the so-called \”cap-and-trade\” legislation, according to Senate staffers who were briefed by the White House.\” And how will we be paying for this? Our nation is already $70+ Trillion in debt if one includes Social Security and Medicare obligations owed to present day Americans. Can we actually afford to target taxpayer dollars toward fighting a battle against the elements? Carol Browner\’s answer to the problems mythically imposed by climate change lies in her future ability to dim your lights and control your thermostat. Is this the kind of change you had in mind?

The Fed has decided to buy up another $750 Billion worth of mortgage backed securities in addition to the $5oo Billion it is already committed to purchase, in addition to $300 Billion worth of long term treasury notes. Won\’t they then own the United States just as the US Government owns AIG? And where did they get all this money? Hmm?

Obama\’s administration has already shut down significant areas of domestic oil and gas production in this country. How will we gain our energy independence? \”Green\” energy sources are only capable of providing approximately 20% of our current requirements. So where is the other 80 % going to come from in the absence of domestic production?

Nancy Pelosi says that staunching the flow of illegal immigrants is \”unAmerican\”. Isn\’t Pelosi\’s refusal to support the constitutional laws of the land \”unAmerican\”?

US Army troops were used in Alabama, as police, after the shooting spree last week that left 11 dead. This is in absolute violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, preventing the US military from engaging in domestic law enforcement activities. Who gave the order?

The AIG brouhaha is an effort by the government (primarily the Democrats) to deflect the criticism that should rightfully be heaped upon politicians for creating the problem in the first place. Posturing over the $160 Million in contractually obligated bonuses, compared to the Trillions that these incompetent buffoons have wasted (or that these larcenous sociopaths have stolen) is like throwing a phony tantrum over the loss of a grain of sand from one\’s sandbox. Are the bonuses really the most important part of this story when $20 Billion of the money provided by the government to AIG went to foreign banks? AIG has been laundering money for the government and is part of a much larger pattern of corruption in which many politicians have been ensnared by their own Arrogance, Incompetence and Greed.

The Obama Administration is seeking to revive the \”Assault Weapons Ban\”, to include pump shotguns and any weapon with a detachable magazine. This makes nearly every modern weapon illegal. Historically, the initial actions of every tyrannical government has included the disarming of its people. Isn\’t this what we are seeing?

The Census Bureau, now under direct control of the White House (and Rahm Emanuel), has arranged to hire 1,400,000 members of ACORN (of voter fraud fame, and recipients of $4.8 Billion of bailout package money) to assist in door-to-door canvassing for the 2010 census. All of this should frighten everyone, especially as the census is used to allocate the number of congressional members from each state. Do you think that anyone would take advantage of this opportunity to expand their influence?

And all of this has come to light just since Monday! A cataloguing of guilt and error will take as long as the Marxists now in charge of our government remain in power.

The Republicans have long ago made themselves irrelevant by failing to mind the store and by failing to respond to the justifiable concerns of their constituents. Their irrelevance will continue in perpetuity. We are now effectively a one party nation. But were you able to reasonably expect anything positive from either political party?

In case you had not yet noticed, things are seriously wrong in America and little remains of the opportunity to put it right. The economy is rightfully of grave concern but the threat to our liberties and our constitutional form of government is of greater concern, especially as the economic crisis is used to leverage limitless political power.

I have noticed one positive sign; the number of cars with Obama stickers on the windows or bumpers has dramatically decreased in this neighborhood in recent weeks as whatever was left of the brains of those who thoughtlessly and carelessly abandoned common sense and whatever principles they managed to salvage through their hedonic excesses seem to have sputtered back to some semblance of consciousness after getting a 401K statement of account, pink slip, furlough or foreclosure notice. Welcome back to reality! They\’ll have to work extra hard to undo the damage they did in November!

What will you do about the dire straits we are in? You need to start thinking about the answer to this question because the time will soon come when you will have to answer with your actions.

Timeless Observations

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

\”How we burned in the prison camps later thinking: What would things have been like if every police operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? If during periods of mass arrests people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever was at hand? The organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and, notwithstanding all of Stalin\’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt.\”
— Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Nobel Prize winner and author of The Gulag Archipelago, who spent 11 years in Soviet concentration camps.

Keep it Up

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Commenting on the newly formed Middle Class Task Force under his direction, the VP stated, \”A strong middle class equals a strong America. We can’t have one without the other. This Task Force will be an important vehicle to assess new and existing policies across the board and determine if they are helping or hurting the middle class. It is our charge to get the middle class – the backbone of this country – up and running again.\”
— Vice President Joe Biden

Don\’t worry Joe; you and the rest of the Dems just keep doing what you are doing and the middle class will be up and running again and you will be running, too, but not for the same reasons.

Down Time

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

My recent back injury was perfectly timed to match the server failure that kept the Poached Frog off the cyber-waves for a while. Everything seems to work out with time. I am unable to sit in front of the keyboard for extended minutes and I have a backlog of thoughts to unload but for today I offer these.

Our trials and challenges are for our our good. The difficult times show us what we are made of.

If truth is the first casualty of war, we are in the midst of a doozy of a fight. If we are to win we must align ourselves with time-tested principles, not time-worn political processes and/or the hacks that perpetuate them.

We are either in the throws of the worst economy since 1929 or we are not. The president has held both views in the last three weeks. Who decides?

Recessions and depressions are as much a result of clinging to bad ideas and outmoded technologies as they are a result of unsound economic policies. In this regard economic downturns represent great opportunities as well as significant challenges. When one adds larceny to the mix, however, the obstacles to resolution are enhanced. A return to law and order is essential. Who are the guardians of the law in this day and age?

Kant posed this question; \”What would the world look like if everyone was doing what you are doing?\” That bit of introspection may well provide the answer to the other questions posed, above. The consequences of every action or inaction can never be denied, and never for long.

Mengele Lite?

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

The Obma administration intends to overturn a law that protects doctors and nurses from potential legal entanglements that can and will arise from exercising their consciences and their religious beliefs when it comes to issues of life and death, i.e. abortion, assisted suicide and euthanasia. If a health care professional, a private citizen, cannot act upon his or her own conscience within the realms in which he or she operates as a private citizen, how close are you to losing your rights to exercise your conscience within the scope of your day to day activities?

Medical professionals must have an ethical code and a high moral sense and purpose or they will be in heightened danger of investing their skills in the pursuits of those who have no similar attachment to morality. How far away does this extra-constitutional manipulation of private practice place the medical profession from the dark days of Dr. Mengele? Not very far at all, it would seem. All that\’s missing now are the camps. But with the closure of Guantanamo and the arrival of terror suspects within our borders, we will have reason to build those new camps. Then, all that is required is for someone to be designated an enemy of the state. While some may think this assessment is quite a leap, it is only a short step to the slippery slope. And people on the left were worried about the Bush administration\’s so-called abuse of civil rights?!

Is the proposed new health care plan a naked attempt to exercise government control over more than just our physical \”health\”? It would appear so.

Is the new assault weapons ban, a clear breach of the 2nd Amendment, a naked attempt to disarm law-abiding citizens in advance of more Draconian measures to follow?

There were good Germans; lots of them. There were far, far fewer after the war. Millions did not survive their failure to act while it was still possible to do so. Ten\’s of Millions of others suffered death and cruelty, as well, as a direct result of the Good Germans\’ abdication of personal responsibility for those who acted in their name. What will be said of us? What will history call us if we permit the further erosion of our freedoms and our honor? What kind of \”Good Americans\” are we to become?

Move Over Caligula

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Obama wants to spend trillions on things never contemplated by the Founding Fathers but is not willing to undertake to perform the most essential duty of the Federal Government: to provide for the common defense. He has told our enemies when we will leave the battlefield and now tells the world that we will not pursue the deployment of a missile shield. He does want to battle climate change, however. What\’s next? Will he be using the US Military to fight the rising sea? Move over Caligula. Obama is here.
